The drive addled my brain.

I just got back from a weekend in Arizona to visit family. The drive was about 7 hours, very little to see besides tumbleweeds, cacti, the blazing sun, and red rock. Naturally, I'm thinking of Sam and Dean trekking across the desert with no A/C in the Impala, but that's beside the point.

The point is that I am now hung up on wing!fic. Involving Sam, specifically.

I resisted for about 5 minutes before deciding that I would write Sam with wings living in Arizona with Dean, possibly bringing in some of the Native American lore. Of course hunters want to kill him for being an abomination and there is danger and peril and Sam flying high above everything in the big blue yonder.

Now I have a question for you: is this horrendous?

Also, when should this be set? It's AU--I have no idea what I'm doing. Some weird in-the-future thing? Pick up where S5 left off? Skip Stanford, make Sam and Dean go to Arizona instead (so they're set S1)?

OH MY GOD YES, DO EEEET!!!

My idea for timeline would to keep it before or around early Season 1, so there's still angst but not a choking amount of it (damn you Kripke!). Plus, you can still use Ol' Yellow Eyes as a feasable plot device . Like he's even more interested with Sammy, now that he's got uber-wings, so they've gotta deal with him PLUS the other Hunters, PLUS John if he were to ever figure out!

I'd start off pre-series. I like the idea of Sam having wings when he's around fifteen. I don't know why. The whole hardly-grown gangly teen Sam with these beautiful huge wings hits a kink. :D Maybe John's gone on a hunt and they're staying in Arizona. Maybe some hunters see him and well, like you said - abomination. Plus, it would avoid all that canon angst - the YED, Sam's powers, Dean going to Hell, their secrets in S4, the Apocalypse in S5. Weaving a wing!fic into that could be hard. (Just my opinion. :D)

Okay, pre-series. Ha, I actually started writing it and Sam was exactly 15, so I guess you get your wish. :P As far as wings go, I'm still debating on color. Any suggestions? I don't think I want to do white, but I can't decide on something else.

P.S. I'm so glad you approve! ;D You have no idea how relieved I am that people aren't recoiling from this idea and going, "Eww. Wing!fic?" For some reason, I figured it was childish or something, but I was just like, "I WANT Sam to have wings like whoa!" And now I have votes of confidence, so that's fuel on the fire. ;)
